Manchester Youth Zone first opened to youngpeople in 2012 as an independent charity. Locatedin Harpurhey enables Manchester Youth Zone to reach those youngpeople who need “Somewhere to go, something to do and someone to talkto”. At Manchester Youth Zone, we have a shared purpose to create passion and pathways for every young person we workwith, we do this through providing a safe and welcoming environment, highquality youth work and promoting inclusion, resilience andaspirations.
We workwith young people aged 8-19 and up to 25 for thosewith additional needs offering a universal programme eachevening that will energise and excite our members. Job Description
We’re looking for a Youth Worker – Music who willplay a vital role in designing, delivering and evaluating engagingand inclusive music-focused programmes for young people aged 8–19 (up to 25 ifthe young person has an additional need or disability). This position isresponsible for creating a safe, supportive and stimulatingenvironment where young people can explore music, develop new skills,build confidence and connect with their peers throughperformance, production and collaboration. The ideal candidatewill be passionate about youth development and music, with strong facilitationskills, a creative and inclusive approach, and a commitment to empowering youngpeople to express themselves and reach their potential through music.
Key Duties
· To work directly with youngpeople aged 8-19 (up to 25with additional needs) to facilitate safe, fun and structured music activitieswithin the Youth Zone.
· To plan engaging activities that cater todiverse abilities, interests and backgrounds of young people (usingyouth voice).
· Deliver a high-quality music offer, whichis safe, fun, challenging and developmental. This will includeplanning and delivery of a regular programme of activities, specialevents and trips, team development and competitions/ showcases,and contribute towards the planning, delivery, and evaluation ofspecific projects.
· Encourage the participation of youngpeople and that their ideas contribute fully to the planning,delivery and evaluation of sessions, projects, and activities.
· To establish positive and engagingrelationships with young people from a range of backgrounds andprovide interventions that achieve outcomes including helping themdevelop positive peer relationships, engagement in new activities,personal development, improved self-esteem, positiveself-identity, acquisition of new skills, and developing wider networks ofsupport.
· To be able to use your own initiative toflexibly meet the needs of young people, adapting sessions andprogrammes where required to ensure inclusion.
· Effectively communicate at all levels both interms of spoken conversations with young people and parents/caregivers,with staff, and senior managers.
· Ensure all recordings are wellwritten for internal use and to be used to inform reports for externalfunders and interested parties.
· Maintain Salesforce with up-to-dateinformation on young people who you have worked with (training provided)
· To complete impact storiesand MeAPPS when instructed by management.
· Use your creative skillsto showcase the work that is being developed to ensureour reportsto funders are accurate, inspiring and informative.
· To work effectively and positively alongsidecolleagues including staff, volunteers and young leaders. Ensure thatall volunteers and trainee staff are made to feel an integral and valued partof Manchester Youth Zone.
· Undertake regular training and developmentrelevant to the role.
· Actively address anybullying, harassment, or discrimination, promoting cohesion,inclusion, and positive relationships.
· To understand and adhere to MYZ policiesand procedures at all times with particular emphasis on equalopportunities, positive behaviour management, health and safety andsafeguarding.
· Promote and safeguard the welfare of childrenand young people at all times, managing any safeguarding issues should theyarise (training provided).
· To be an active member of the teamand operate in line with the Charity’sexpectations, values and principles. Work a flexiblepattern including evenings and weekends in line with the role/teamrequirements.
· Carry out any other duties as maybe reasonably determined by your line manager and be flexible toattend residential trips.
· Promote a positive image of MYZ throughprofessionalism and good conduct with all our stakeholders and the public.
