On Sunday 20th October 2019 we held the first ever Inclusion Cup, with the aims of engaging young people with additional needs and disabilities in sports.
Seven Youth Zones brought down a total of 76 young people with additional needs/disabilities – these young people engaged in 12 different sporting activities including sports day classics such as egg and spoon race and three-legged race.
“The day was amazing, and it was a joy to see all the young people enjoying themselves and working so hard. Thank you to everyone who made it possible and congratulations to everyone who took part.”
– Ben Herriman (Sports Coordinator)
All the young people on the day took part in a gym and boxing challenge some of who have never done these sorts of challenges before. All the activities were adapted to be inclusive so all the young people could take part and enjoy the day.
For many of the young people it was the first time mixing with young people from other Youth Zones. Some of the young people took part in sports which they have never done before opening their options for the future.
“Well done to all the young people who took part. The day was great with everyone enjoying themselves. It was nice to see a range of young people mixing with each other from all different Youth Zones.”
Corrina Aitchison-Hayles (Inclusion Manager)
All the young people left with smiles on their faces and said how much they enjoyed the day and couldn’t wait for the next one. A massive congratulations to Wigan Youth Zone who were this year’s Inclusion Cup winners!
