4229 down... 0 to go!

What an action packed few weeks we’ve had at MYZ!

In the run up to the Easter Holidays (which are now in full swing with lots of happy faces activities both inside and outside the building!), we were working with organisations across Manchester to pack and deliver a total of 22,000 Easter activity packs, making sure that the cities most vulnerable children had something fun to open and play with over the holidays. This humongous operation was funded by the Department for Education through their Holiday Activity Fund in partnership with Manchester City Council, Skills for Life and MCR Active. In total Manchester Youth Zone were responsible for packing and delivering 4229 of those.

If you’d have seen our faces as the scale of what we had signed up to dawned on us, you would never have believed we could pull this off. But thanks to an army of over 100 volunteers across 10 days, the challenge ahead of us became not just possible, but fun!

With a mix of familiar faces of which we can always rely, and new friends who rallied to our aid after we posted a call to arms – with out every single person who showed up for us, it would not have been possible. The energy and enthusiasm that filled our rec area every day was unwavering and everyone involved should be so so proud that, thanks to you, 4229 children have everything from slime to bubble discs, activity books to cupcake kits and much more to keep them entertained this school holidays.
