We’re buzzin’ to introduce you to Harpurbee, one of over a hundred bee sculptures marking Manchester’s landmarks and hidden gems.
Manchester’s iconic worker bee emblem was the inspiration for Bee in the City, bringing Manchester’s local communities and visitors together on a fun, family-friendly tour of the city’s best bits. Each Bee was designed by different artists and celebrates the city’s history and communities.
Harpurbee was designed by artist Guy McKinley, who ran a series of workshops with our Junior Members to find out what Harpurhey and Manchester Youth Zone means to them. The group talked about the iconic tiles on the building, a rainbow representing hope for the future and the place where they live. The name “Harpurbee” was voted on by our social media followers.
Bee in the City was created by Wild in Art and Manchester City Council, in support of the We Love MCR Charity fund. Learn more about Manchester’s highlights and download the Art Trail map on Bee in the City’s website.
Harpurbee was kindly donated to Manchester Youth Zone by the NHS North Manchester Commissioner.
